There was a single gas station in cities across Essex County selling diesel at the lowest price of $3.85 per gallon in the week ending Feb. 24, according to GasBuddy.com.

The average cost of diesel in cities within Essex County was $4.26 per gallon.

Of the 102 gas stations in cities within Essex County, 12 offer diesel.

The average price of diesel in New Jersey was $4.10, compared to $4.14 the week before.

Experts predict gasoline prices could drop below $3 this year before rebounding closer to $4 by year’s end. GasBuddy forecasted a national average of $3.38 per gallon, down from $3.51. An outlook published in late 2023 suggests that gas rates will continue to fall in 2024.
