Governor Mikie Sherrill addressed several issues impacting New Jersey in a series of tweets on April 15, 2026. The posts focused on economic development in Atlantic City and concerns over transportation funding related to the upcoming FIFA World Cup.
In her first tweet, Sherrill wrote, “Had the privilege of addressing the East Coast Gaming Congress in Atlantic City! My Administration is committed to supporting Atlantic City and driving it forward – building a more stable, resilient, regional economy long-term.” (April 15, 2026).
Later that day, Sherrill raised concerns about financial arrangements for World Cup transportation. She stated, “We inherited an agreement where FIFA is providing $0 for transportation to the World Cup. And while NJ TRANSIT is stuck with a $48 million bill to safely get fans to and from games, FIFA is making $11 billion. I’m not going to stick New Jersey commuters with that tab for years” (April 15, 2026).
Mikie Sherrill currently serves as Governor of New Jersey and has previously represented New Jersey’s 11th district in the U.S. Congress since 2019 after succeeding Rodney Frelinghuysen. Born in Alexandria, Virginia in 1972 and residing in Montclair, Sherrill has held various leadership roles within the state.
