Governor Mikie Sherrill addressed the public in a series of posts following a shooting in Union Township that resulted in one death and six injuries, while also announcing significant upgrades to NJ TRANSIT. Sherrill, who has represented New Jersey’s 11th district in Congress since 2019, posted these updates on April 12 and April 13.
In a follow-up post on the same day, she urged community cooperation with law enforcement: “We encourage the community to remain vigilant and report any information to local law enforcement. Tips can also be submitted anonymously by phone at 908-654-TIPS (8477) or online at https://t.co/Cx0U8YuiHA. New Jersey stands with the Union Township community.”
On April 13, Sherrill shifted focus to transportation improvements, stating: “For too long, NJ TRANSIT riders have been promised change. Today, we start delivering the results they deserve – with the introduction of 40 new railcars, 250 new buses, and 30 new accessible vehicles for NJ Transit. This is a first step toward fully replacing NJ TRANSIT’s”.
Mikie Sherrill was born in Alexandria, Virginia in 1972 and currently resides in Montclair at age 51. She succeeded Rodney Frelinghuysen as representative for New Jersey’s 11th district in Congress starting in 2019.
