Governor Mikie Sherrill highlighted recent developments in New Jersey’s public health initiatives through a series of posts on her official Twitter account this week.
On April 16, Governor Sherrill announced her participation in the swearing-in ceremony for Stephen Cha as Commissioner of the Department of Human Services. She stated, “It was an honor to join the swearing-in of Stephen Cha as Commissioner of the Department of Human Services. Dr. Cha is battle-tested, innovative, and empathetic – the right person to lead our state’s largest department and help every New Jerseyan get the care they need.”
The following day, she drew attention to Black Maternal Health Week and addressed ongoing disparities in maternal healthcare. On April 17, she posted, “This week is Black Maternal Health Week. For too long, Black women have disproportionately struggled to access critical maternal health care, resulting in dangerous disparities within our State’s public health ecosystem and contributing to shocking maternal mortality rates.”
Later that same day, Governor Sherrill invited residents to learn more about her budget proposal aimed at expanding services for new families: “Join me as I highlight my budget proposal to expand the Universal Newborn Home Visitation Program.”
Mikie Sherrill has served in the U.S. Congress representing New Jersey’s 11th District since 2019 after succeeding Rodney Frelinghuysen. She was born in Alexandria, Virginia in 1972 and currently resides in Montclair.
