The Township of Livingston announced on Apr. 16 that residents can use two permanent Drug Drop Boxes located in the lobby of Police Headquarters at 333 S. Livingston Avenue to safely dispose of unused, unwanted, and expired medications.

This initiative is highlighted as National Prescription Drug Take Back Day approaches on April 25, aiming to encourage proper and safe disposal of prescription and over-the-counter drugs. The program seeks to reduce the risk of drug abuse and misuse while also protecting the environment from potentially harmful chemicals.

Residents are able to deposit medications anonymously at any time, as the drop boxes are available around the clock. However, syringes, EpiPens, and other sharp instruments are not accepted in these boxes.

According to township officials, containers can be placed in the box individually or inside plastic Ziploc-type bags for convenience. This measure supports efforts to keep hazardous substances out of local soil and water systems.

For more information about medication disposal or how to properly discard sharps such as syringes and EpiPens, residents are encouraged to visit livingstonnj.org/DrugDropBox.
