U.S. Representative Mikie Sherrill, who serves New Jersey’s 11th district, posted a series of messages on her official social media account addressing safety concerns and federal funding for transportation projects in early February 2026.

On February 6, Sherrill addressed residents directly with a message in Spanish: “¡Cuídense y manténganse seguros, Nueva Jersey!” (Take care and stay safe, New Jersey!).

Later that evening, she commented on a legal development regarding the Gateway transportation project: “The court has granted temporary relief, lifting the freeze of billions of dollars of federal funding for Gateway. Trump’s decision to freeze this funding is illegal, and we’ll continue to pursue full relief so the nation’s most urgent transportation project keeps moving forward.” This statement refers to ongoing efforts to secure funding for the Gateway Program, a major infrastructure initiative intended to improve rail connections in the Northeast Corridor.

On February 7, Sherrill reiterated her concern for public safety as inclement weather approached New Jersey. She wrote: “Stay safe this weekend, New Jersey. If you experience an outage, report it your utility. If you need updates on road conditions, visit https://t.co/7TtrUIEBkw. If you need a warm place to go, visit https://t.co/ddDm7vnk7U or call 2-1-1.”

Mikie Sherrill has represented New Jersey’s 11th congressional district since 2019 after succeeding Rodney Frelinghuysen. She was born in Alexandria, Virginia in 1972 and currently resides in Montclair.
