Mikie Sherrill, a U.S. Congress member representing New Jersey’s 11th district since 2019, has recently voiced her concerns on several controversial topics via social media. Born in Alexandria, Virginia in 1972 and currently residing in Montclair, Sherrill has consistently brought attention to issues impacting national security and public welfare.

On April 29, 2025, Sherrill criticized a decision involving library book selections. She stated, “Pete Hegseth has taken Why the Caged Bird Sings by Maya Angelou off of the library shelves, but left two copies of Adolf Hitler’s Mein Kampf in the library.” Expressing her disapproval, she highlighted the incongruity of midshipmen having access to Adolf Hitler’s manifesto while Maya Angelou’s work was removed.

Later the same day, she commented on the nation’s security in relation to foreign policy. Sherrill emphasized, “While Donald Trump bends the knee to Vladimir Putin, I’m standing up for our nation’s security and the safety of our allies.” She introduced an amendment targeting Pete Hegseth and Donald Trump to prevent the elimination of military command deemed essential in opposing Vladimir Putin.

In another statement, Sherrill mentioned concerns about Elon Musk’s activities within government, particularly the Department of Defense. She declared, “Elon Musk is running around the Department of Defense completely unsupervised.” Sherrill further expressed her unwillingness to support Musk financially by writing a check to his ventures while accusing him of exploiting national resources for personal gain.
