Rep. Mikie Sherrill, who has represented New Jersey’s 11th district in the U.S. Congress since 2019, recently posted a series of messages on social media addressing local remembrance events, mental health resources, and political violence.
On September 9, 2025, Sherrill wrote about her participation in a memorial event: “On Sunday, I was honored to join the procession to the Morris County 9/11 Memorial where we remembered the thousands of lives lost almost 24 years ago, including more than 700 New Jerseyans and 64 Morris County residents. From the workers in the World Trade Center to the first https://t.co/KAGkOSztuu”.
The following day, on September 10, she highlighted World Suicide Prevention Day and promoted access to crisis support services: “Today we recognize World Suicide Prevention Day. You are never alone, and if you need to talk to someone the suicide hotline operates 24/7 for calls or texts, in both Spanish and English, at 9-8-8. This essential resource saves lives and must be protected from proposed cuts https://t.co/ShfpNvtXqb”.
Later that same day, Sherrill responded to recent news regarding violence against a public figure: “The shooting of Charlie Kirk is appalling. I’m praying for him and his family. Political violence is dangerous, un-American, and has no place in our democracy.”
Mikie Sherrill was born in Alexandria, Virginia in 1972 and currently resides in Montclair at age 51. She succeeded Rodney Frelinghuysen as representative for New Jersey’s 11th district after her election in 2018.
