Mikie Sherrill, a current U.S. Congress representative for New Jersey’s 11th district, has expressed concerns regarding recent policy changes and legislative proposals through a series of tweets. Serving since 2019 after succeeding Rodney Frelinghuysen, Sherrill has been vocal about the impact of these policies on her constituents.
On June 4, 2025, Sherrill criticized the decision to double tariffs on steel and aluminum, stating that it would result in increased costs for essential items. “Doubling tariffs on steel and aluminum means higher prices for cars, homes, and groceries—hurting Jersey families and good union jobs.” She emphasized the negative effects this could have on families in New Jersey.
In another tweet posted shortly thereafter on June 4, she addressed former President Trump’s trade policies. “Trump’s chaotic trade policy is a tax hike on Americans and targets our allies while giving China a leg up. It’s reckless and wrong for our state and our economy.” This statement reflects her disapproval of how these policies might disadvantage both the state’s economy and its relationship with international allies.
The following day, June 5, Sherrill commented on proposed legislation that could affect health insurance coverage across the nation. She noted that this bill would impact millions of Americans’ access to healthcare services. “This bill would strip health insurance from 10.9 million Americans —and over 300k here in New Jersey. That includes seniors, veterans, and children who depend on this program.” Her remarks highlight concerns over potential adverse effects on vulnerable groups within her state.
Mikie Sherrill was born in Alexandria, Virginia in 1972 but currently resides in Montclair at age 51.
