On February 21, 2023, the Kiwanis Club of Caldwell-West Essex celebrated its ninety-ninth Charter Night at the Hanover Manor in East Hanover, New Jersey.

The Club recognized four of its members for their many years of service to the club - Merrill Stern of Towaco for 70 years, William Fried of Caldwell for 50 years, JoAnn Dixon of West Caldwell for 35 years, and Pat Collura of Caldwell for 30 years.

Long-time Club Secretary Wally Brixner of West Caldwell was awarded a George F. Hixson Fellowship for his outstanding leadership and service to the club.

The Club awarded three Carrington-Swain Awards. The first to Jane Kinkle of Caldwell, a long time teacher at Grover Cleveland Middle School, and who served as Builder's Club  (which is sponsored by the Caldwell-West Essex Kiwanis Club) Advisor.

The second award was presented to Mary Edwards, a teacher at Mount Saint Dominic High School who also advises the Key Club at the school (also sponsored by the Club).

The final Carrington-Swain was presented to Kiwanis Member and Caldwell Mayor, Garrett Jones. In presenting Jones with the award, Almeida advanced that Jones is "a Kiwanis institution" and is there for "anything and everything the Club needs."

Awards were also given for perfect attendance at meetings to Lew Wefferling (45 years), Dean Konner (43 years), Collura (29 years), Mary Ann Luke (14 years), the late Barbara Peck (11 years), Joy Scally  (8 years); Chris MacIntyre (6 years), Jessica Almeida (3 years), Jeff Gates (3 years), and John Krug (1 year).

At a ceremony prior to the event, members presented a Wil Blechman Fellowship to Merrill Stern, who turns 103 years old this June, at his home. #kiwanis #kiwanisinternational @kiwanis
