Mikie Sherrill, a U.S. Congress representative from New Jersey’s 11th district, has voiced her concerns over recent developments in the military leadership structure through a series of tweets. Representing her constituency since 2019, Sherrill expressed apprehension about actions that she believes could undermine the armed forces and national security.
On February 22, 2025, Rep. Mikie Sherrill criticized Secretary Pete Hegseth for his comments regarding Admiral Franchetti and General Brown in his book. She stated, "Yet, Secretary Hegseth called Admiral Franchetti a DEI hire in his book, and criticized General Brown because of his commitment to promoting diversity in our armed forces." Sherrill argued that these moves are not aimed at strengthening the military or focusing on merit but rather serve personal interests.
In another tweet on the same day, Sherrill commented on actions by former President Trump and Secretary Hegseth concerning military leadership changes. She wrote, "Now, Trump and Hegseth are trying to gut the military’s leadership so they can use the armed forces to carry out their personal, political agenda." According to Sherrill, such moves could threaten America's national security and project weakness internationally.
Sherrill also highlighted concerns about the continuity of military leadership across different administrations. In her tweet posted on February 22nd she noted, "Normally, our military’s top leadership serves under multiple administrations — Democrats and Republicans alike." She pointed out that some leaders dismissed recently had served during Trump's first term as president.
